Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content

I love this book and recommend it to everyone I know. It’s A helpful guide wit pragmatic tips to help you improve your writing. You will literally be a better writer by the time you put the book down. But if you’re thinking that sounds mind-numbingly dull, then you’re wrong. Ann Handley writes so well that you will enjoy every delicious minute of reading this book.

Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen

This is a great read on how to get really clear on the messaging that will help your brand resonate with your ideal customers, and how to translate it into powerful marketing materials.

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users

I inhaled this book in only a couple of sittings. It’s jam-packed with very practical tips on everything from how to optimize your social profile and create great content, to how to build your following and host social events. The authors of this book are Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick, two social media influencers that I hold in very high esteem.

Entrepreneurial You: Monetize Your Expertise, Create Multiple Income Streams, and Thrive

This is the third book in a trilogy by Dorie Clark, a marketing and strategy consultant and keynote speaker. In this tome, Dorie Clark explains what I fundamentally believe – that holding a single full-time job presents a far greater risk than creating multiple, diversified revenue streams for yourself. In this book, she presents a blueprint for building your brand and monetizing your ideas and experience.

Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days

Chris Guillebeau is a very popular blogger and speaker known for meeting his goal of visiting every country in the world. He’s also famous for successfully setting up more than a dozen side hustles in his quest to develop multiple income streams. Marketing Apps & Tools

SmarterQueue is one of my favourite tools for social media automation. I use it to put all my evergreen posts in rotation through my social networks and have started using it with many clients as well. It has a broad range of pricing options, and the customer support has been outstanding.

Smartsheet Smartsheet is a collaborative project management app that offers Gantt charts, reporting, plenty of built-in templates, and other robust features. One of Smartsheet’s great benefits is its flexibility. I use it with clients to manage long-term projects, but I also use it as an editorial calendar.

The day I bought my first iPad, several years ago, marked the start of a years-long quest for the perfect task management app. I must have tried half a dozen apps, but I found them all lacking. When I discovered 2Do, the search came to an end. It’s powerful, flexible, and easy to use.

Web Development Resources

WP Engine is a robust WordPress hosting solution that is used by big brands to host their websites. I host my own Website with WP Engine and the experience so far has been a dream, compared to past hosting experiences that were fraught with regular heart-stopping outages. My industry colleagues tell me their customer support is stellar. I wouldn’t know because, happily, I have yet to have an issue! Click on the button below to get a discount on your first month of WP Engine.

I discovered Host Gator when I was looking for a less expensive hosting solution for some of my clients. I’d had some bad experiences with other low-cost hosts, and wanted to make sure that I was putting my clients in good hands, so I consulted with other industry partners I trust. They recommended Host Gator and I see why: Several of my clients have now been using Host Gator for some time and have had a great experience. If you decide to sign up for a Host Gator account, click on the link below to get a discount on your plan.

Avada is one of the most popular WordPress themes available, and with good reason. With Avada, you can create beautiful, professional looking sites that don’t even look like they were created with the same theme because Avada makes it so incredibly easy to customize your site’s appearance. I use Avada on this site, as well as close to a dozen client sites. Avada also comes equipped with a slew of site demos that you can download and modify to get started quickly.

Layered Popups is a WordPress plugin that lets you create stunning and unique pop-ups for your site. You don’t have to be a coder or designer to create beautiful pop-ups, either, thanks to their extensive template library. And there are brains behind the beauty: With Layered Popups, there are at least a dozen ways to trigger pop-ups to make sure you aren’t annoying your site visitors. For example, you can display the popups after a certain time delay, as visitors leave your site, or when they click a link or a button. I use Layered Popups on this site, as well as on several other client sites.
